Perspective

Living in the great suburb of Edmond, I was reminded last week of why I enjoy working with first time home buyers. I had first-time buyer clients of mine, who purchased their first home in Edmond about four years ago, contact me about being a sponsor for their running club event.

Since I received the email in early December, I printed it out and put it in a stack of "get done later" paperwork. Last week, I came across the form and felt compelled to support the cause--not something I usually do.

I emailed my client and told her that I had sent in my check. I did not hear back from her for several days. Then, she emailed me and thank me for the contribution--and, in the same email, told me that on the very day she had emailed me the original request, her husband had been in a terrible accident and was in coma and had been for the past 6 weeks.

Needless to say, I was shocked. Repeatedly in her emails, she had thanked me for helping them as first time home buyers find a home in Edmond. Her life had been completely turned upside down, yet it was important for her to continually thank me.

This shed some "perspective" on my life. Regardless of what I'm going thru, I hope I can have this type of "attitude of gratitude" that my client displayed. She may be thanking me for helping them, but I am learning from her how to handle adversity with grace.

Real estate is a wonderful business because it provides the opportunity to develop long-term relationships that begin with the potential of being an extremely stressful situation. It is always important, whether we are buying our first home, moving or going through a challenging time in our life, to have the proper perspective.
